Stroud & District Table Tennis Youth League report 10-12-10
Soul Cal make big move
Division 1
Thornbury continue to lead Division 1 following a 5-0 win over Wycliffe D. TKS have closed the gap to 3 points with a 5-0 win over Wycliffe C and 2 points from Dan Ind in a man show against Rednock A. Soul Cal are this week’s biggest movers climbing from 9th to 3rd spot following 5-0 wins against Wycliffe E and Rednock B. Ed Paddock was very close to picking up Rednock’s first point losing out to Tom Watts 8-11 in the fifth set. Tom was involved in an even closer match against Wycliffe’s Rory Maybery eventually winning 15-13 in the fifth set.
Playing only their second match Wycliffe A had a comfortable 5-0 win over luckless Rednock B. George Gwilliam managed Rednock A’s only point in their 1-4 defeat to Wycliffe B
Division 2
Unbeaten Archway move to the top of the table and lead by seven points after 5-0 wins against Busscombe and Chalford Hill B and a 3-2 win over SHS A. For Archway, Oliver Philp won 4 out of 4 but Billy Shilton lost his unbeaten record against Kate Davis in her first appearance for SHS A. Kate also had a good win against Emily Philp and will be one to watch during the coming weeks. Matthew Davey was on form for Busscombe winning his two matches in a 4-1 victory against SHS B. Ben Edmunds beat Issy Silverthorne and teamed up with Matthew to win the doubles. Freya Savage made a good start in her first outing earning the point for SHS. Two more SHS debutants Tara Phillips and Emma Gill took part in the High school A v B derby. SHS A came out on top winning 4-1 with Tara winning both games and teaming up with Natalie Green to win the doubles. Georgina Churchley beat Natalie for the B team’s point.
Chloe Haywood was on her own for Chalford Hill B and tried her best against one of title favourites Nailsworth Phoenix but was unable to prevent the more experienced Harry Ash and Aaran Skinner from winning 5-0. KLB had a 5-0 victory over Chalford Hill A to keep them in contention although the scoreline could have been closer. For Chalford Hill, Dominic Richardson nearly caused an upset taking Katie Trinder to a third game and he and Harry Baber had close games against Ian Tinder

Constable in charge as Thornbury go top
Division 1
Thornbury have opened up a 5 point lead at the top of division 1 after 5-0 wins against Soul Cal and Wycliffe E and are clearly the form team at the moment. Joe Constable maintains his 100% record at the top of the averages with Mark Attwood close behind on 80%.
Dan Ind and Oscar Costelloe were unbeaten as Thomas Keeble had a comfortable 5-0 win against Rednock B. Dan was on his own against Wycliffe D but after a tough match against Gabriel Khatter, won his two singles to put Thomas Keble in second spot.
Rednock B are still without a point as they found Wycliffe B too hot to handle
Sam Ealey was ubeaten in Wycliffe C’s 4-1 win against Rednock A. George Gwilliam picked up the point for Rednock with a good win over David Forss
Division 2
KLB are joint leaders with Nailsworth Phoenix in Division 2 following 5-0 wins against Stroud High B and Chalford Hill A. Georgina Churchley came close to picking up point for Stroud High taking Katie Trinder to three and just losing out 12-14, 8-11 to Ian Trinder. Oscar Adamson played well against Ian but was not quite able to salvage a point for Chalford Hill eventually losing 11-9, 4-11, 4-11
Billy Shilton continued his good start with two wins for Archway in a 3-2 victory over early leaders Nailsworth Phoenix. Angus Harper stepped in at the last minute to partner Francesca Price-Smith for Chalford Hill B but they were not able to compete with the more experienced Nailsworth Phoenix team of Charlie Ash and Rowan Hutchings who ran out 5-0 winners.
Archway are now just a point behind the leaders after Emily and Oliver Philp teamed up for a comfortable 5-0 victory against Stroud High B
Stroud High A were 3-2 winners against Chalford A in a very close match where every game went to three. Chalford’s points came from Sammy Sapley with good wins against Leah Davis and Poppy Baker. Unfortunately Stroud High A had only one player available for the match against Busscombe and went down 1-4.
